Oshare Macross Gaiden: Macross Boys Popup Shop

The latest in the ongoing series of Macross pop-up shops, “Oshare Macross Gaiden: Macross Boys” is being held at Shinjuku Marui Annex Department Store from February 8 through to February 25.

While the majority of the popup shops over the past couple of years have focused on Walkure (with a couple of Fortier-themed ones, albeit primarily over in the Kyoto/Osaka area), this one focuses on the male characters of the Macross franchise, although Shin, Hikaru, Hibiki, Basara, Gamlin, Michael and Hayate are conspicuously absent from the lineup. Maybe there’s room for a Macross Boys sequel? Only time will tell. For now, here are our pics from the current shop. Enjoy!

SpeakerPODcast Ep.122 – Who let the Flying Dogs out?

The (first?) Flying Dog Festival included many moments one wouldn’t normally expect at an event supposedly held to celebrate 10 years of the Flying Dog record label. Like Kouichi “Spike” Yamadera barking on stage, or 13,000 people roaring to video’s of Gunbuster, or name dropping the Bahamut from Megazone 23, or Shoji Kawamori giving a short lecture to a packed sports stadium on the history of Macross.

On the other hand, much of what fans were expecting didn’t necessarily happen as planned, with Yoko Kanno pulling out of the event on hours before the doors opened due to a bad bout of influenza.

So what happened? How did things go down? Join us this episode to find out!

Wonder Festival 2019 Winter

Wonder Festival 2019 Winter was held, as it usually is, at Makuhari Messe on Sunday, February 10.

The following gallery is a mix of commercial products and garage kits with a smattering of cosplay, starting with products from Arcadia and overall Macross-related products, then mecha-anime related kits and toys, finishing up with miscellaneous (but cool!) stuff. We’ll be going into more details regarding the show on an upcoming podcast episode. Enjoy!

SpeakerPODcast Ep.121 – Explosive Sound!!!

It’s time to take a look back at all the developments and happenings in the Macross franchise over the last year. Before that though, we need to get the new year started. And what better way to do so than visit the Macross Bakuon Film Festival to watch Macross Plus and Do You Remember Love?

The latest chapter of Blue Blazes recounts author Kazuhiko Shimamoto’s reaction to the original Macross OP.

Street Fighter Champion Exhibition II

The event space at the Akihabara Radio Kaikan held a small exhibit and charity auction for Street Fighter 2 recently. Running for a little over 2 weeks, from Jan.11-27, the event space showcased original design documents and art from the game, as well as a selection of merchandise from the 90’s. The following pics were taken by both the SpeakerPODcast Crew and podcast guest Tony, who actually went on auction day to see first hand how much some of the original pieces of art went for.
