The SpeakerPODcast Crew finally sits down to discuss what they think of the recently released Alita: Battle Angel, but first it’s time for some Macross Historia and a Megazone Minute to discuss the latest Megazone 23 XI trailer!

It’s been a good two decades since we last saw Ryo Saeba and crews latest antics in animated form grace our screens (no, we don’t talk about Angel Heart around here).

City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes hit Japanese cinemas on February 8 and appears to have struck a nostalgic chord with audiences since some cinemas are still screening it over two months later. Shinjuku itself has been caught in the grip of mokkori fever, with collaboration cafes, and promotions all over the place – some pictures of which I’ve included below.

But how does the movie stack up? Does it try to reinvent everyone’s favorite lecherous sweeper for 2019 or does it stick to doing what Ryo does best?Tune in to find out!

As Yamato 2202 reaches the conclusion of its 2-year journey in Japanese cinemas, superfan Tim Eldred joins us to break down what happens and discuss the future of the franchise.

This was supposed to be our Wonder Festival 2019 (Winter) podcast. And I guess it still is. Sort of.

But there’s a whole lot of news to get through first! Not to mention Cassie & Mary joining us to talk about the Oshare Macross Boys popup shop. We also attend the Macross Frontier 10th Anniversary Gorgeous, Delicious, Deculture Festival to hear about what it was like to be a Misa fan 37 years ago and the third love interest that was cut from Macross Frontier: The Wings of Farewell.

Oh, and did we mention that Sharon Apple is BACK?!

The (first?) Flying Dog Festival included many moments one wouldn’t normally expect at an event supposedly held to celebrate 10 years of the Flying Dog record label. Like Kouichi “Spike” Yamadera barking on stage, or 13,000 people roaring to video’s of Gunbuster, or name dropping the Bahamut from Megazone 23, or Shoji Kawamori giving a short lecture to a packed sports stadium on the history of Macross.

On the other hand, much of what fans were expecting didn’t necessarily happen as planned, with Yoko Kanno pulling out of the event on hours before the doors opened due to a bad bout of influenza.
